Satsang with Pujya Deepakbhai:

OPINIONS  EXPRESSED IN THIS LIFE CREATE A NEW MIND IN THE NEXT LIFE

Gnani Purush Dadashri provides further details in satsang about the nature of mind, its creation and dissolution.

Telesatsang : Sunday February 03, 2002

Topic: The Genesis of Mind through Opinions Part 2 . Continued from Aptavani 10, Vol 1.

Please note that unfamiliar words are followed by a meaning preceded by ....

For example a gaanth... is a tuber that sprouts.

Pujya Deepakbhai continues initially in monologue:

Opinion binds new mun... mind.

Language is the mother of mind.

Opinion is the father of the mind.

Meeting of the mother and the father creates a new entity, the mind of the future life.

The opinion that is not expressed verbally does not create a new mind. By the term new mind it is meant to convey the one for the next life.

This is the main key shown to us by Dadashri and much of this was covered in the last week.

We now continue with more this week.

One has to be very alert...jagrut against abhiipraaya... opinions. Opinions for anyone or anything. If an opinion has been expressed, then it should be wiped off by pratikramans. The inner attentiveness must be there that, it should not be so...then the new mind for next life will not be caused.

Dadashri says that one may be a vegetarian in this life. In the company of friends who eat meat, if this vegetarian individual that it is all right for his friends to eat meat expresses the opinion, then a new mind will form with a support for meat eating in the next life. If on seeing some who eat meat it is expressed that, its good for a strong body and there is nothing wrong with eating it, then in the next life your mind will be ready to eat meat. So great care needs to be exercised regarding expression of opinions, even casual ones. In this manner lots of new gaanths... tubers that sprout ....knots that unfold...are caused in this life via opinions carelessly and casually expressed.

People try to calm the mind, and when unpleasant thoughts arise, they try to banish them, control them, or eliminate them to a level where the mun...mind is shunya...zero level...without content. The mind however has arisen from past life expressed opinions and so the way to really eliminate the mind...(for purpose of moksh), is to stop creating it through opinions. Opinion means... say you are given a mango. Enjoy it. After eating it if you say...its excellent, when will I get it again....then an opinion has been expressed. All events, all contact with things or persons, enjoy them but do not express opinions.... good or bad. All that happens in this life in terms of contact with things, events or individuals is part of discharge effect karma, but while going through that contact the expression of an opinion that this thing is bad, this person is good etc...binds new karma through the creation of a new mind substrate as mun...mun ni gaantho...the tubers or the knots of the mind. Two things have happened in the process. The opinion was given and on top of that it was expressed in speech.

Dadashri says that if my mind tells me ... this mango is delicious and is worth eating more....I will  change it to....its a file...and its worth dealing with sambhaav...dealing with equanimity. If we happen to come across a nice place...we reset it by saying...settle with equanimity...its not worth coming again....(otherwise one binds for visiting that place again in next life). The mind shows the opinion of the past life....and we negate it with the Gnan..the current knowledge of this life.  So there is nothing left to be carried forward to the next life.

This negation will have to be done via Gnan. The awakened awareness ...which is our current State. Whatever agnan...ignorance was filled in the past life...will express in this life and all that will have to be negated with our current Gnan. The opinions will arise... first class tea is a necessity...without which I cannot function...Now this is an opinion of past life which is heavily supported by such opinions in this life. There is nothing wrong with enjoying the good cup of tea that presents in front of you. The further support of the carry forward effect is to be shunned by not vocalizing any further opinions. Just consider it as a file and settle it with equanimity without expressing pleasure on receiving it, and expressing annoyance on not receiving it.

The Satsang in Q&A's follows:

Q: If we give an inner opinion that this should not be so....is that not an opinion...? ( The assumption here is that this has been expressed as opposed to being kept within...)

D: No...This is a division from within. That which was multiplied into an increasing layered opinion life after life , is now being divided by the contrary approach. That which was multiplied by 7 in prior life has to be divided by 7 in this life. Otherwise it will continue. The old gnan is being changed by the current Gnan.

Q:  If the mind shows us that this opinion exists, but if we do not express it through words, then what happens?

D:  Nothing...it will empty by itself. Words means further imprint is given to the mind of the next life.  Expressing it through words means the ego has placed its signature. As long as you do not press the shutter release of the camera...all the images that you see through it will not hurt you. Pressing the shutter release id the expression via ego...through words.

Q:  What if we do not place our signature...and also do not divide it....( through pratikramans)?

D:  If you harbor an opinion but do not express it..nothing will happen. Or if you do not harbor any opinions... then also the mind will cease.... eventually.

Q:  What is the difference between  the process of creation of a mind and the process of creation of new karma...? (Both refer to the next life)

D:  The root cause of new karma is ignorance. Wrong belief. I am Narendra and I am the doer. The further roop rang...the shape and color of this new prakruti...complex of thoughts, speech and acts.... for next life is given through opinions. e.g.   must have tea, alcohol, meat, sex...etc  The other factor is buddhi  no ashaya...that which is decided via intellect of past  life....must have such a home...such a wife...such a place to live...etc...this will bring forth evidences in next life, and within your own body the type of mind that will be there for next life is based on opinions expressed in this life. The evidences that come in front of you are related to the realm of the intellect of past life... buddhi no aashaya...  which decided upon ... I have to have such a home, such a spouse... such a location for  staying...etc. And opinions bind, create a new mun... mind. Thus Dadashri shows us the scientific key to dissolve the mind. The mind that arose in agnaan.... ignorance will subside with Gnan... the Awareness of The Awakened Self.

Q:  If the mind is created does it mean a karma is created?

D:  Yes, the karma is bound. The giver of opinion is the ego, and hence the karma is there for sure. The doer ship has already occured in the process of giving the opinion. The ego has arisen out of ignorance. This satsang gives a more detailed view of the specifics of the karma, via the causal mun...  mind, which leads to further opinions in the next life and further mind causation for the life after that. What seed? Was it a rice seed or a wheat seed? This is the nature of the detail.

Q: After Gnan, mahatmas do not bind any new karma...correct?

D: Correct. What happens here is the issue of pending of discharge of the old karma. When opinions arise in discharge, and if you fail to eliminate them ( via virodha ... opposition or pratikraman... reversal of aggression with apology and decision never to repeat the aggression) then it will remain pending. Either eliminate it, or remain GD....The Gnaata Drashtaa...The Knower- Seer of it.  If kadhee...yellow soup...comes your way and it is  extra salty...and if you say its very salty...then the karma is still pending for you. The discharge has not occured exactly. So the salty kadhee will keep coming for you to tackle with SBN...Agna 4 ...or the methods of antar tup.... inner penance described above.... or else the discharge kashaya.... KMML  will keep arising. If on the other hand you say...This is just a file....do SBN... or if the words of opinion of salty kadhee have been expressed...do P... pratikramans...then the chhed...the karma is discharged...and you are free for that particular instance of causal karma.

Our Vignan is to discharge previous karma... whereas for the folks of the world it is to eliminated new charging. This is the essential difference between the Akram Path and the traditional Kramik Path.

Q: While giving opinions, if it is set within.... that the giver of opinion is not I...

D: Exactly that is what the science is trying to convey...if the words have been expressed ... wipe them off as soon as you are aware of them.

Q: So it is OK to make that type of adjustments?

D: It depends on the intensity with which the opinion was rendered. If a heavy forceful opinion is expressed...the internal reversal process has to be of corresponding intensity. The pratikraman has to be of the intensity of the aggression. At the same time, tell Triveniben to cease from giving wrong...  negative  hurtful  opinions...

Q: So it will work?

D: Do both...first separate from the doer, and then chide and caution the doer.

Q:  While dividing.... doing pratikramans...  the intellect interferes and takes side of F1...the one who gave opinions...

D:  Yes, but The Awakened One is there within with awareness.... to preside over the intellect. Tell it...your talk is not going to work here. I am on the path of moksha. Moksha is my dhyeya...goal. Please do not interfere. If you have any cues that help me in my goal, I will listen to you. But if you misguide and confuse me, I will not pay any heed to you. At least try this approach once. Once this type of inner talk with buddhi starts....then pragnya's authority rises and intellect takes a secondary... submissive role. This approach gradually enhances the force and shakti that lets You arise from the clutches of prakruti... Understand? Especially in those matters where there is pol.... convenient excuses occurring for decisions that invariably lead to absorption in the relative realm....occurring, in those instances give it a major boost for delving into the realm of The Real...The Self. Another way to gain mastery over the interfering intellect is to declare openly ( in front of a satsang group or the Gnani) that see...my buddhi is labaad...is up to no good and is planning such excuses in secret. Say so, and it will shy away from pol. This is an amazing technique of Dadashri, and has been suggested  in matters where mun, buddhi try to assert that which is not conducive and helpful for The Bliss of The Self...True, final freedom.

Q: What if the opinions like.... brahmacharya is good, abstaining from alcohol is good....remain within...and are not expressed in words?

D:  Such opinions are OK, and expressing them will strengthen them. The presence of these opinions within means that the seed has been there from past life, and someday it will sprout to give benefit. If you strengthen them by expressing your opinions, then you should strengthen them until the final liberation. I want to be celibate through these thoughts, speech and acts, until the final liberation. Spashta vedan....Clear unimpeded experience of The Bliss of The Self will then take hold. Strengthen it, for sure, without any looseness of intent. If your intent in bhaav...opinion...is loose...then a slight koosang....wrong company...environs....of sexuality....here....will make you slip into a reverse gear....of further sansaar...and worldly entanglements. For example, if your opinions are not strong, loose.. like...its ok for some to marry...or such a woman is a worthy life companion.... or that  man such a good husband...  then the new seed is there for marriage for next life, even though you hold ideas of celibacy being good in this life.

Q: But all these thoughts are related to the mun... the mind

D: Correct. Our kheytur...the farm  of our mind has two types of seeds... Those of sexuality and those of celibacy...both carried over from past life. Majority of the seeds are of sexuality and some rare seeds are there for brahmacharya.  It is like 50 acres of passion and 1 or 2 acres of celibacy. So now we need to nurture the seeds and saplings of brahmacharya...total celibacy....celibacy through mvk....and we  need to eradicate the seeds as they sprout... ideation of passion and sexuality.... and pull and throw away any saplings that have sprouted to the one or two leaflet stage...!!

So we in our awareness are able to do both. That is our focused jagruti...aware awakened approach. The mind will show contradictory cues. Once it will say...fast, then it will say pig out. Once it will say brahmacharya...next it will tempt with vibrations of passion. We are the aware decision makers of throwing out that which is contrary to our goal of moksha and bliss.

Q: So if opinions are noted within about sexuality and they are not expressed, then its OK, no?

D:  No. If some opinions arise within that sex gives pleasure...and there is bliss in sex...then these need to be thrown out with the aware awakened approach of Gnan.We need to set and establish that," bliss resides only in celibacy”. Thus the sapling of brahmacharya will grow into a strong tree. It is beneficial to vocalize these positive opinions. You have done so, here in telesatsang and all have heard them now.

Q: This will be covered in the daily samayiks, no?

D: Samayik dissolves old knots.

The science simply needs to be understood that opinions are useless, and especially negative opinions must never be vocalized. The 5A's...Five Agnas.... The Cardinal Commands of The Gnani Purush that sustains the Liberated State...  raise you from the jungle of opinions and much more. The Agnans hold you above all opinion...  positive and negative both.  The only positive opinions worth having or encouraging are:

The Bhaavna of Jagat Kalyan.... The deep inner intent and its effect of salvation of the worldly beings.

The Views of Brahmacharya....  The bliss of celibacy. These are supportive of each other.

Pujya Niruben joins satsang briefly and relates that she just returned from Surendranagar, where a record breaking 650 new seekers acquired Dadashri's Gnan.

Q: That is so wonderful. Wish such fervor existed here, abroad. Give us agna... to do whatever we can.

N: Absolutely. Start all of you... Do whatever you can in your own way. Our blessings are always there.

Q: We are taking your permission to start Dada Satsang next month at The Jain Center in Orlando. This is going to be a monthly event.

N: Very good. Invite all Florida mahatmas.

Q: Every Sunday our Chicago satsang continue.

N: Very good. As new mahatmas join the satsang will increase.

Q: How did the 650 folks perform the samarpan vidhi, Niruma...while sitting in their own place or coming forward?

N: You are not to ask that. Come and see it for live in India.

Q: Niruma send Aptasutras...

N: Sure , you will get it all . Did you say putra or sutra?

Q: Putra....( laughter...putra means son...sutra means cardinal truths).

N: Jai Sat Chit Anand to all mahatmas of America, London, Uk and Cananda....

Q: On page 228 the words atattvadarshan and tattvadarshan are used by Dadashri. Please explain

D: Tattvadarshan means " I am Shuddhatma." Atattvadarshan means " I am Purnima." And  atattvagnan means ..." I am a doctor"...I am a mother etc.

Q: Will you please explain the talk in the Aptavani about the knowledge of the 11th mile versus the 12th mile?

D:  Say you have arrived at the 11th mile at a location which is simply beautiful and green, and you wonder how nice it would be  to stay there and build a cute home and grow a nice orchard and an aviary....and so at that time such bhav arises within you. And in the next life say you end up in a desert and desolate place....and there now your mind is of the past life....wanting the green orchard in a lush surrounding.... so now the conflict arises in the past life mind and present life reality...  where you are short of water and shelter. The dviidhaa starts. The conflict starts. Even if you try to plant a tree or a flower plant, your mind will revolt because the folks will chide you for wasting water....so this is the 12 th mile of this life and the 11th mile was of the past life....the scenes were different at different distances traveled in the journeys of life after life. In the 11th mile of last life you wanted a good wife, a few children and a thriving business....and now in this life after Gnan...the issues are those of dispassion, liberation and celibacy. So today's 12th mile Gnan is telling us of celibacy, negation of worldly pleasures, and moksha and old gnan brings forth the old desires of family life, passion, pleasure and living with gusto. Hence the conflict between the two carries on within man.

Q: So how  shall I tackle this problem?

D: Stick to the dhyeya...goal of today...which is liberation, and be aware of the cause of this conflict. They are simply echoes. Even when the TV is carrying on with uninteresting program , do we not ignore it and attend to the important issues glancing at the newspaper at the same time? Likewise, be aware that it is simply discharge pariinaam. The discharging result...of the bhaav...intent of what confronted us in the 11th mile....of past life.

Q:  So when will the 11th and 12th meet in synchrony and match each other?

D:  No.. The matching is not necessary. Why try to match it? We are beyond the file and mvk...!!!  Both these mile scenes are merely scenes of the samsaran marg....the cosmic flow towards liberation....all beings in the final view are proceeding towards increasing spiritual evolution and liberation. We are aware of the last mile and do not paint any new miles for the future. Know, See and Remain as The Pure Self. The old will discharge.

By Being the awakened aware Knower Seer of the discharging mind, nothing new is going to be created and all the old stuff will express and empty and end.

Dadashri has said that The Gnani does nt become involved with a single thought presented by the mind.

How do we remain aloof from the mind? The mind will say...today is Sunday, I want to have some nice bhajiiyas... you should tell it...this is a file....Let us do oonodari...partial filling of the stomach...so whatever the mind shows, we express a different gnan...the present one and see and experience the present separation from that which is old. Hence you have separated, have not been involved with the old past life opinions, and thus the mind will cease...bothering you. This experiment of conversation with the mun is very helpful. This is a very simple and correct path shown by Dadashri.

Q: So can we sew the seeds of..." Living with a Gnani is best.....?"

D: Yes.  That is good. Just as the positive seeds of brahmacharya, jagat kalyan above, this is complimentary.

Q: If we say that this goonchvan....complex current conflict...is there, but not mine, and I have nothing to do with it. Will it work?

D: Sure, it will.    But then the very nature of the mind is that it is very complex and after separation from it, one needs to keep it employed in that which is beneficial to the goal. hence the 5 agnas, and thereafter the tekagnan...  that which supports the Gnan...of bhogave teni bhool... fault is of the sufferer, banyoon tey nyaaya... what has happened is justice, adjust everywhere..., athhadaaman taado.... avoid clashes. All of these latter support the Gnan. just by saying Vyavasthit....the mind may not experience closure at all times and therein lies the additional synergystic value of these teka gnan approach. You have to say...the fault is of the sufferer....we are suffering, therefore it is our mistake.  Then the mind will accept it as closure and rest. All need this detailed knowledge after the main Gnan in the vidhi. Thus these finer aspects of adjustments of Gnan will help you. That is why all these finer discussions in telesatsang is helpful even as we discuss the finer aspects of this science.

Q: Many times when events unfold there is conflict noted between what we want as the goal now and what is unfolding. Under these situations if we hold on to the goal, we experience more conflicts....

D: That is called antar tapa....inner penance. It will happen. It is an opportunity to arise higher in this vignan. With this tapa the past karma finishes and Atmashakti...Energy of The Self unfolds even more. Dadashri has said often that our mahatmas avoid opportunities of tapa. While this inner penence is happening...there is great inner burning and turmoil....but ultimately Atmasookh... The Bliss of The Self will arise and the outer penance will end.

Q: If we hold on to the dhyeya...the goal of liberation, does the discharging karma finish or does it remain pending?

D: It all burns out. The aware approach of the goal as the main thing, and the least interference with the past karma that unfolds now will lead you to victory. Once you sit in opposition to that which unfolds, it will end.

Q: Are we to understand the suffocation as virodha... opposition? During the time of suffocation the jagruti...awakened awareness...slips. It is difficult to be and remain the GD of these karma unfolding...

D: To become involved with and all that relates to the dhyeya...the goal is good. That will make the other fall off. Once you have come over and started supporting the goal the other remains without your support and will fall off. Either you oppose it or make Pattuben do lots of pratikramans or...ask for the shakti for that which you consider as your goal...and the other will fall off.

Hence this mun of this life is the stock of opinions expressed in the past life. All kinds of non sense and useless opinions were expressed in the past life and now as it unfolds with more of the same...remain separate and simply be the detached observer of it. Even if you see it in an organized Samayik for about 48 minutes... you will be able to accomplish much and gain great grounds in the spiritual realm. Whatever you were able to "see" in samayik, those layers are unveiled. Thus, and by this approach you will gain the shakti of The GD pad... The Knower Seer State. Remaining in the GD State the Nirgranth Pad...the clear...knotless mind will remain. And for those errors and faults...doshos which are particularly sticky...e.g.  vishay...sexuality...divide them by pratikramans and opposition internally, and strengthening the nischaya...the awakened determination. Make F1 do all these even as you remain the Observer of how well it is being carried out. This is the exact method of scientific liberation. Mahatmas all over are "doing" varying aspects of this for sure...dividing the multiplications of past life, via pratikramans and following The Great Agnas to the best of their ability.

Q: What is the difference between mind and desire?

D: First there is an idea in the mind as a thought, then the buddhi decides it is worth having and then the ego gets involved in the object of the desire, and the  mind takes it up as a nagging issue of desire.... and once the desire gets established the dhokadoo....the mechanical complex of mvk...gets dragged away in the direction of desire.

Q: Sometimes in satsang we are more inclined to listen and sing pados... spiritual songs  than to recite Charan Vidhi. Why is that?

D: That denotes the ras... interest of the prakruti. Then we have to tell it to divide time equitably. While dining he will say, I am very fond of the sweet shrikhand, and the rice kadhee is do so...and there you have to tell the prakruti to take a balanced meal. The mind seeks variety, so give it a little bit of everything. So balance the satsang in the variety of sessions of Dada satsang. Then slowly the mind will adjust. From our perspective we have to know the preferences and the dislikes of Jasubhai.

The key is to remain in the present and join what is happening.

Q: Sometimes it feels in satsang when they are reading...that I know all this ...and then it gets boring. Why so?

D: If he...F1 says ...I know it...then we have to ask it...If you know it all, why is it that you make errors and the result is not what it should be... ? There are simple clashes in small interactions...why so? In fact we have just understood the superficial gross meaning of Dadavani... we need to understand the deeper meaning and then after understanding...it should become an experience of ours. As you go deeper you will experience much more.

Then also visualize what Dadashri must have seen in His Gnan...and how he had tackled all these issues. If we do not probe higher, then the intellect and the mind will sink us in sansaar...the worldly interaction. Deep inner search for all these higher meaning and applied aspects of The Vignan of Dadashri is the only thing that will sustain you and keep you in the Bliss of The Self. Even when a good satsang is happening the intellect will say...ah its the same old thing, its basic...who am I...I and my issues...I know it all...and that is a trap of falling under the clutches of the intellect.
