CHIT AND ITS SEDUCTION

Gnani Purush Dadashri provides further details in satsang about the nature of chit, the reasons for its wandering and the ways to keep it absorbed in the Self.

The Energies of Chit
Chit enticed by Interest.

Q: In the latest Dadavani there is the statement that' kashaya bhaave bandhyoon hoi tO kashaya bhaave ookale'... if one had caused a bondage with feelings...deep inner intent of kashaya...kmml..(see index) then the unfolding of such binding from past life will be with the same bhaav of kmml. Please explain.

D: If one has expressed anger and decided within that without an outburst of anger these folks are not going to improve, while expressing anger in past life...kashaya bhaav...deep inner intent...then the unfolding will be in the form of anger unfolding in this life as well. If it had been bound with raagbhaav...feelings of attraction and attachment...then the expression in this life will be similar. Dwesh will result in dwesh. The process of causation the charging of subatomic particles...parmanoos  depends on the nature of the causal bhaav. If the intent was dwesh...abhorrence then these subatomic particles are charged. Now in this life further causation has ceased but the charged parmanoos... are now discharging as effect. By looking at the nature of effect one knows the kind of parmanoos accumulated, charged in past life. So for mahatmas there is no bhaav krodh...charge krodh anymore...simply a discharge ungamo...( Dadashri does not call it krodh anymore)

'If I scold him, he will straighten up' this intent, bhaav, attracts anger parmanoos.

Q: In Aptavani 13 summary outlined at the end of The July 2002 Dadavani there is mention of the division of eight types of karma. Where does the knots of the mind...manogranthiis...fit in this context?

D: The eight karmas are formed in the causal body by charging and accumulation of these parmanoos of various types. When these karma discharge then the expression is in the medium of mun, vani and vartan...thoughts (mind), speech and acts. If he has antarai karma...obstructing karma or darsahavaraniya...perception intuition covering karma then the causes have been such via the parmanoos. This mind is therefore made up of such knots which have come from dravyakarma. These knots express as deluded vision...eg for mohaniya karma knots in this life he may have moha for vishaya...sex, money etc. (Moha here meaning a veil over the Bliss of The Self...resulting in the expression of movements towards the non self as in sex, money etc) These karma called dravyakarma are in the form of a veil...which deludes and when it expresses it is seen as vyavahaar...interaction of mvk...thoughts, speech and acts.

All these eight karma knots express in varying degrees. If it is small it expresses in thoughts only, if more it may spill over in words and furthermore may also result in overt acts.  The shata ashata vedaniya...the pleasure pain perception karma may remain within the body or in the mind only and it all arises from dravyakarma.

Let us not be too concerned for the detailed connection of this. If we enter too deep in it now there are chances of becoming confused. It will be experienced as time passes. For us the key is 5Agnas and Shuddhatama.

Now let us take chapter 6 which discusses the powers of chit. Within this body anytime there is any disease or pain e.g. a headache then the chit goes there and informs. Then this is further followed up by buddhi or mind and then whatever action is needed follows through....e.g... massage...medication.  The first response is from chit...e.g. from a mosquito bite. If his chit is distracted e.g. while watching TV then...the the insect bite message is not properly received.

Chit is very helpful in decreasing physical ailments and suffering, if properly employed through correct focusing on the area of pain in association with proper breathing techniques. This avoids unnecessary medications. However, folks are more interested in a quick fix of a dose of a medicine.

Dadashri talks about presence of chit and its benefits, and absence of chit and consequent ailments. If chit is absent while eating, one is even liable to chew his own tongue. If the oragniser...the one who is in control of chit...becomes lax then this happens. The presence of the chit is the component of The Self and the absence of the chit is the impure chit. The purified chit stays with the Self. The impure chit...is that which strays and wanders.

Even while singing the arti of SS and Dada if the chit goes astray...one will mix the order of singing or words from one to the other. When the chit is not exactly present on the task at hand ...confusion and problems arise. If the keys are placed somewhere without the presence of the chit...a lot of hassle ensues and time is wasted in locating the keys when the time comes.

Q: When there is pain in the body..does the chit experience pain?

D: No the chit simply brings the message and the ego takes over by saying...I am hurting. The chit can be very helpful like a focused light beam in a dark room...telling you what is going on. This observation power has to be developed. The chit simply shows. The illusion takes over and he says I am hurting. The neighbor...F1 is hurting but we say I am hurting. The messenger is chit.

Q: Could it be that if we ignore it we will suffer less?

D: Not so. Actually the pain was there, but we were not paying attention. The exact attention is to be aware of the signals and not give opinions about them.

Q: Are we to see the chit via pragnya?

D: Yes. This observation purifies the chit....and it reverts back to the Self. The wandering chit decreases the experience of the Self. The contained chit increases the experience of The Self.

Q: So when some body part is hurting what is better...to keep chit in Dada or to send the chit there...?

D: If it is unbearable then keep the chit in Dada...but to observe the chit and its wanderings is a much higher form of jagruti...awareness.

Q:How is it possible to continue observing the chit? This is pretty difficult.

D: By starting the practice of observation in slow increments you will accomplish a lot...5 minutes...7 minutes... so then we come to the next chapter 8 wherein Dadashri says that the chit slips away from the Self because it has interest in other things. Once the interest happens...then the chit follows through. One is interested in walking...so early morning the chit will see the scenes of walking and start the cues. He goes walking because his interest is in walking.

Q: How do we keep the chit in The Self?

D: To keep the chit with the Self...become without any interest. " Interest vagar na thaaO" Are you drawing the wandering chit back?( Dadashri page 300) If the interest is in money...money occupies your time and that much time you are away from the Self.

Q: Is this due to raag dwesh?

D: yes. Raag is interest...dwesh is disinterest. These are the fundamental reasons for the wandering chit.

Q:All this wandering chit is bharelo maal...accumulated load of last life expressing in this life ( implying that one cannot do anything about it)

D: Yes there is old load of last life but the straying of chit is not bharelo maal. Thoughts are bharelo maal. Thoughts represent the load of last life unfolding. Chit does not. Chit is dependant on interest and disinterest. Interest does turn into disinterest.

Q: Are you saying that it is within our control not to become tanmayakar...I am the body...or not to become I am this body?

D: Of course. If the bhajiyas are being fried in the kitchen, the aroma will cause the chit to go repatedly to the kitchen. Even if the chit does not go there...the bhajiyas are ultimately going to go into the stomach, when the time comes and they are served properly. What is the point of the useless wandering of the chit until then?

Q: Does it therefore mean that when the chit is going to the kitchen and the bhajias at an inappropriate time, I have to tell Himanshu...do not go there...stay in the Atma?

D: No if you obstruct it it will go even more. Just observe what it is doing and where it is going. Converse with it. What is the special taste that you are after? Do you not know the after effects of fried food? What is the big deal about the simple taste of bhajias? Why so much running around for something which is going to stay less than a minute on the tongue? We are the knower of the taste not the sufferers of the taste. It is the interest that makes the chit wander. The body is going to get its share of the bhajias once they are made in the home. Why the unnecessary jumping around? The interest is associated with..." I love the taste of bhajias..."

Q: Is this due to wrong belief...?

D: Yes all this chit etc has arisen from the wrong beliefs.

That is why Dadashri tells us to find out where the interest is. These interests drag the chit away from Your bliss. These interests are therefore harmful to us. When you devalue these external interests then the tendencies of the chit...chitvruttis will return home...to the Self.

Q: How do you devalue that which is attracting the chit?

D: Dadashri says ...take a day like Sunday and take time to observe the chit as is. Even if it goes away for a moment see it. Start with an hour and then all day and then when it becomes a constant state of observation then kalyan...the final attainment ...has occurred. Investigate the causes of why the chit wanders away from the Self. What is the residual attracting force in this thing or person...that is taking away this chit? What is the reason behind it?

Now Dadashri proceeds further...asks us ...are you interested in your wife cursing or or not cursing you? Answer...not yelling or cursing. Dadashri replies that in both instances your chit will wander. Both will make your chit wander. This is because your interest lies in your wife not yelling at you. Arise above interest and disinterest and revert to The Self.

Khicchhadee or laadvo...whatever comes...will do. There is no preoccupation for the laadvo...sweetball and no disinterest and subtle dislike and avoidance related chit wandering for the hotchpotch of rice and lentils. What comes is exact and correct. No wasting of time with the wandering chit. There is no interest in what will come. There is no interest in what will happen. The present is the key and that is The Self. The  account of pudgala parmanoos will draw in the exact type and nature of food.

Q: Who has the interest?

D: The chit spare part is defective and therefore all the rest...buddhi ego... has to follow through.

Therefore take time and find out where the  interest lies for an hour. We will investigate where the chit is interested and not interested.

And come back to the Self.

Q: So we have to talk internally?

D: Yes..say what is the fun here in watching cricket? Devalue it. Ultimately it will fall off...

Dadashri says that he withdrew rus...interest from each individual thing. Thereafter, if it came in front e.g. shreekhand...dessert the body will eat but the chit will have no unnecessary wanderings. Associated with this is the development of the full spectrum of vision...end result...paarinaaamik drashtii...from dust to laadva...and laadvaa to dust...why the excitement?

Q: What is this aatmashakti that bends spoons by concentration power...?

D: It is relative shakti of the Self...powerchetan. Not real. One man said that he can draw a glass of steel filled with water because of his 20 year sadhana...whereupon the other replies that I have my powers too for which I have not had any sadhana. Show me said the yogi who was proud of his 20 year effort. The man simply calls his son...son bring me a glass of water...this is so easy...why would I waste 20 years of my life on this...?

Q: How can one put to good use the powers of the chit?

D: For Jagat Kalyan. For the salvation of the world. Once you revert to The Self...the rest...the MVK will automatically become useful for the world. Currently we are involved in the purushaarth...highest internal effort...of withdrawing the chit from that which is unnecessary...sansaari baabato...worldly matters... and from atakans...those heavy past life knots within...that pulls us away into sex, money gathering, status seeking etc...even if we have no fresh desire to do so.

Q: Is samayik the way to see this chit wandering?

D: Yes this is one way to increase the shakti to observe. Even five minutes is a start.

This increases as you practice more.

Dadashri says that our chit...The Gnani Purush's...does not stray in any temporarily worldly circumstance. If it has to leave it leaves after a Vidhi and then after performing the desired task the chit comes back to us promptly. It does not get lost or stuck anywhere. Whereas for us its like a little child who has been sent to the store to buy some vegetables but gets lost in buying a chocolate and eating it...forgetting the goal.

Dadashri never wasted time to know what was in his suitcase...bag despite world travelling. If there was no one to help then he would take care of the clothes. But otherwise he did not waste time being concerned with his clothes and what was in the bag, etc.

Some ladies complain a lot about being overworked in the kitchen. Then when a cook is around to do the meals, she still hovers around and messes around in the kitchen saying if I do not cook with my hands I do not enjoy the meals. So make up your mind. If you want to work then do not complain. They have the interest. Some mother in laws readjust everything in the kitchen even after it has all been done by the daughter-in-law....and vice versa. Such interest needs to be eradicated. It is a waste of precious time away from The Self.

Q: If the role of pragnya is to see what the mbca are doing then what is the difference between the mahatma who is doing all the vidhis...charan, namaskar, pratah, spp...shuddhatma pratye prarthana, satsang etc and the mahatma who is doing his daily business? Let us assume that in both instances the pragnya is in operation doing the same task of inner observation.

D: This is theoretical knowledge. For now one has to attend to 5Agnas.  Job is a file. I am SA. I need to do SBN with all files. I need to accumulate the real account of SA. V is the doer. What you are describing is the last stages of spiritual evolution in Gnan. Currently we are still at the kindergarten level of agnas. We have just come to the kindergarten level of Vitarag Vignan....The Science of The Fully Enlightened Ones. What you are describing is Ph.D level talks. Dadashri unfolded everything... and told us what to expect ahead as a milestone. Today's task  for us is different. It is focused on Agnas. And patikramans. Take an occasional hourly practice per week to see what is happening within...otherwise your files will complain.

Q: Yes but what is the difference between the 2 mahatmas above?

D: The one in satsang is more aware and jagrut with greater ease than the mahatma involved in daily work. Such a mahatma has farajiat satsang...mandatory in his udaya...unfolding life. For him the purushaarth of increasing jagruti is easier than the one who has to hassle with files in daily business. The other man has decreasing jagruti chances. By remaining in Agnas he is insulated but the forces of vyavahaar have a definite downward pull.

Q: So the main thing is where the upayog is...focused awareness is...

D: Yes... For those with files the easy way is through 5Agnas.

Q: Ultimately the files will have to be decreased...( Note that the questioner assumes that it is in hands to decrease files...)

D: Yes that is why your participation in Janmajayanti, Gurupurnima, Shibirs and Jatras is encouraged as it gives you the break from sansaar...worldly involvements..

Q: Yes that is all a step...but ultimately...

D: Yes...that is true...one has to start letting go of the world....

Q: What is the role of chit with reference to  seeing within...?

D: It is different. It depends on what the intent is to see within...Arjun saw only the eye of the fish and Duryodhan saw the sky...while training as archers under Dronacharya...so one sees what his drashri...vision is. The interest is the key

Q: Yes but the interest of all mahatmas is to be liberated...moksh...

D: Yes but the knots still exist within...everyone reads the newspaper but each one has a different interest in it. One reads sports pages, another financial another political...

The eyes are simply the instrument, the inner seer is seeing...

Q: From such activities one can tell what the knots are...

D: Yes.

Dadashri studied his own life incident ...preGnan... where his shoes were stolen as he was coming out of a temple. The inner maan...pride arose that it would look odd walking in public without shoes...and later with study he realized that folks are too busy to look at what you are wearing. All were looking at his face except the cobbler.

Q: In the following chapter ...page 304...there is a statement by Dadashri that " If one can learn to become nirvikaari in vikaar then the virya will rise..." Please explain...simply stated...If amidst an abundance of sexual environs, one learns how to remain without being enticed then the inner energies will rise higher instead of dissipating...or at a more gross level the semen arises versus being wasted...

D: That is the eight chapter and is the topic for next week...

( A discussion follows where the questioner will be at the GP celebrations in Chicago...and then stated that he will ask this question to Pujya Niruma ).

Q: On page 290 Dadashri states that he never used his head in the wrong path...explain please...

D: Oh all the hassles in daily life which create headaches for others...

When people get exasperated ...then speech has been used the wrong way. If they want you to continue speaking...you know its the right speech.

Dadashri says that the essence of all scriptures is to bring home the chit vruttis...the wandering tendencies of chit.

This is so beautiful. All you have to see is the areas of interest within you and follow up with plus minus. For disinterest...plus. For interest...minus.

Enquire where the bliss and fayado...profit is. Wandering chit or the still chit.

Observe where it goes...see and bring it back gently... by talking to it.

The ultimate goal is to be be interested only in Shuddhatma and nothing else.

All atakans...those which pull away the chit whether the owner wants to or not... are because of interest. Usually an atakan is the result of  active excessive onging interest in the same thing life  after life...eg sex. This is because life after life opinions have been laden upon successive opinions to the point where the massive accumulations of the opinions have become an atakan...eg sex is fun.

The analogy is of a huge ball of steel which has been placed on a hot stove for a long time. The heat is taken up by the ball of steel and  it becomes red hot and long after the stopping of the heat underneath it continues to dissipate heat. Likewise this pudagal of this life has become an atakan like the heated ball of steel. The effect of passions remains long after the cause has been removed...and our Gnan helps us recognise its true nature. As soon as the nimit comes across  the chit vruttis ...go all over it immediately...attraction and passions arise upon seeing such a nimit because of the presence of the atakan from previous life.

Our role is to wash and purify each phase ...paryaya ...of such interaction...from within...that this is wrong, not my Real nature...make F1 repent, see Shuddhatma  within the person who is attractive, etc. Apply all aspects of Dadashri's Gnan and let the critical time pass...so that you are unmoved and you chit vruttis have been exactly withdrawn. 100000 opinions have been given in the past and now an atakan has arisen. The task is to divide each one of these opinions which arise during the interaction of the event which unfolds in front of you from within. That is Purushaarth.

Purushaarth enoo naam ke hisaab hoi ...tyaaye naa jhalaavaa dey...

                                                                                    Dadashri Page 307.

The highest inner endeavour ...purushaarth ...is defined when a decided previous account of chit getting ensnared, enticed and seduced is defied and such an interaction is prevented.

The above satsang was followed by viewing in samayik  all interest and disinterest in worldly matters...and travels of chit.

The next satsang will be based on the latest July Dadavani which discusses issues of various steps of purushaarth in great detail and shows Dadashri in all His satsang splendor. Happy Gurupurnima Everyone....
