Puzzles In Life
The Gnani Purush shows the true nature of inner conflict with unprecedented clarity.
The Problems Of Abuse And Dependence In Daily Life
Dadashri:
Ask some questions. How long will you remain entangled in these inner conflicts?
Questioner:
I do not have any conflicts currently.
Dadashri:
You may feel that way now, but when difference of opinion arises at the dining table, then you will be up in arms with conflicts and puzzles. There is a puzzle within a single conversation. Every word uttered brings with it a puzzle and conflict. The lack of awareness of the puzzle is sheer slumber and stupor in life. Otherwise this worldly life is such that even a single second will become unbearable (for the awakened one). Before my enlightenment (1958), life was unbearable for me, and I could hardly sleep.
The folks around when asked,' is happy or unhappy?' would reply, 'he is a happy one'. But I was tremendously unhappy because I was not enlightened. I was quite aware of the intricacies of the world, but it was all awareness of ignorance. Imagine ! The state of being neither here (worldly) nor there (enlightened). Its like being in the shoes of a person who has seen a snake enter his home in daylight. The one who has not seen the snake enter, will sleep soundly. But what of the one who did see the snake? He will lose his sleep altogether. Thus, it is a wonder to me that people are able to continue living the life (of blissful unawareness).
When he reaches home, he has to swallow the taunts of his wife, at work he has to swallow the comments of his partner, the commands of the income tax officer, in service he has to deal with the abuses of the boss. Wherever he goes, he suffers abuse and mishandling and insults. Is he not ashamed? Does he never wonder the reason why he puts up with all these hassles in life? What is the purpose of his human birth here? What is he living for? Alas! What can he do? So then he becomes thick skinned, bitter and ordinary and non caring.
The Gnani Provides The Soultion Of The Puzzle
You may ask anything here. Get all your puzzles solved here. How wonderful the life without any conflicts and puzzle would be? Such a life that not a single conflict would arise!
Questioner:
Conflicts are part of the life of anyone...
Dadashri:
Not so. None of these ten thousand mahatmas of mine have any conflicts or puzzles. I have been free from all conflicts for the last twenty-two years (the current satsang with Dadashri happened in 1980).
Questioner:
Man is bound to be entangled in some conflict or the other, is he not?
Dadashri:
No. How can he be called a human being if the puzzle and conflict happens?
Questioner:
It may be possible to remain happy with a clear mind in the face of a conflict, but conflict is inevitable, is it not?
Dadashri:
He can be called a human being when the conflict does not arise. Conflict continuing even after a birth in India? (Dadashri has said that a birth as a human being in India is the result of significant spiritual endeavors in prior lives and the substrate is now ready for moksha if an encounter happens with a Gnani liberator)
Questioner:
A conflict will arise, but within it we find a solution.
Dadashri:
This is the way it is. The world itself is a puzzle. Those who have not solved this puzzle are all dissolved in the puzzle. We ( Dadashri and the fully enlightened Lord within) solve this puzzle for you, and then you will not get dissolved. Do you have a desire to solve this puzzle?
This science has never been available before. You have not read about it, heard about, known about it in the past. All puzzles are solved in an hour. Such a medicine is given that no further puzzle will ever arise, and then there will never be any fear and life will continue.
Questioner:
I have been seeking such a solution for the past ten years and in the process I have now come to you.
Dadashri:
Now that you have come here, you will find a solution and all your puzzles will be solved. The world does not like puzzles and conflicts. Wherever you go to solve the puzzle, the person only creates more puzzles. It is not his fault. We go to someone with the hope of a resolution of our inner conflict but it only makes it worse. So if the puzzle ends then we will have peace. Does money bring peace? Do women bring peace? If that were so, then some of these emperors who had sixteen hundred queens would not have renounced them all and run towards a Gnani in search of peace. So money or woman will not bring peace. However, this world is not a lie. It is the reality in the relative realm. And the Self is the reality. If you attain the reality, all puzzles will be solved. Until them the puzzle will remain. There is no enjoyment of any kind with a puzzle, because the sword of fear is constantly hanging over you.
Question:
One has to live in fear
Dadashri:
The world enjoys (suffers) everything with this fear as the base. Instead it would be better not to enjoy anything.
The Constant Problem Being Helplessly Dependant
All other life forms are by nature dependant. Human life form is both dependent and independent. In human life form there is constant dependency as long as there is ignorance (of the Self) and total independency with knowledge of the Self, Gnan. After Gnan only, true independence happens. In all other life forms there is total dependence. This means they are dependent upon circumstances and have to live according to circumstances. Even as a human being one is dependent. One has to eat whatever comes on the plate, take a shower if it is available. All these worldly interaction and activities are entirely dependent on circumstances.
Up until now, you were in a constant state of puzzle, sheer and total puzzle and conflict. And you have to grind what has already been ground. You have to do the same chores everyday, sleep in the same bed, face the same music day in and day out. Something new and exciting would be needed would it not? And if one cannot find this new and exciting stuff, then it is better to come 'home' (the Self). I used to be very tired of the same old routine of life, the same room, the same bed, the same food. It does get tiring does it not? And the time waits for no one, a day comes when the name will be taken away (death).
So if you do not get many varieties in life, then it is better to come home. Within our home is endless bliss. But it is not possible to return home without the help of a Gnani. No one has been able to do it alone. The Gnani Purush has reached home and therefore he can take you there.
Take a look, for you is Sunday a day of joy or misery?
Questioner:
It seems miserable if I have to work on Sunday.
Dadashri:
No, is Sunday a day of joy or misery?
Questioner:
Generally it is a day of joy, because I can go out and enjoy in activities that bring pleasure.
Dadashri:
So you are looking for a life of freedom ?! Living in freedom means doing what you like, and going and coming where it is suits you. You would like that would you not? Now some young men are free. If we ask them, 'what's up?', they will say, 'I have been unemployed for the past three months.' So that is not living in freedom. And here by working hard for six days and keeping one day for free living results in joy. This means one likes living in freedom, one does not like dependence. Do you not see constant dependence everywhere in the world?
Questioner:
One has to tolerate this dependence...no?
Dadashri:
So then how long will you continue tolerating such dependence? One can understand the tolerance needed to live with the wife, because one day there will be liberation from that when one of the two dies, but what about the rest of these dependencies? You go to your medical dispensary daily, do you go there with pleasure or with a sense of dependency?
Questioner:
With pleasure
Dadashri:
Do you ever have to go there when you have no desire to? Do you ever attend a wedding when you have no desire to? Do you tell them at the wedding that, 'please excuse me, I have to leave this party because my patients are waiting for me, and I have no choice'? Have you done things for which you have no choice?
Questioner:
That used to happen in the past, not now.
Dadashri:
So then, all this is dependency. The entire world is involved in doing that which is beyond their control. No one is able to do anything which is under their real control. All are working under dependency because this is all a discharge, an effect of that which was charged in the past life. In that discharge there is no choice, whether you do it with pleasure or with displeasure. It is all mandatory. Do you have something in your life that is mandatory?
Questioner:
One has to fulfill one's duty.
Dadashri:
Yes, that means it is mandatory. And in that if a puzzle does not arise then know that you are free. Thereafter, if one curses us, insults us, harasses us, slaps us, hits us, then also there is no conflict, one becomes ineffective (does not suffer any effects), does not come under the influence of effects (of causes laid in past life, expressing as events through mind, speech and acts in this life). Whereas here there is nothing but sheer effect, effect and effect. When told at night in a multi person household ,'uncle, go to bed', and one covers the head with the blanket and then the thought comes, 'oh today was the deadline to open that new account', how long will he remain awake?
Questioner:
The whole night.
Dadashri:
What else can one do? All this is dependency and is pitiful. If a cop scolds you or a bunch of robbers stop the train and rob you then you will know what pitiful means. So how long will afford such dependency?
When will conflicts and puzzles in the world cease?
No one is wrong in this world, they are all in their viewpoints. I do not see anyone as wrong in this world. Yet, only when the puzzle has left will I call him correct, until that I will not call anyone correct. Yes, one is right from his viewpoint but the puzzle will not leave until three hundred sixty degrees are attained. One is asked to 'do penance, recite mantras, recite names of the Lord, do fasting, do yoga, do meditation, everyone asks you to 'do, do, do' and all they are doing is to throw you in the valley of puzzles.
Questioner:
How can one come out of these puzzles?
Dadashri:
I will help you come out if you come here. If you come for two or three days, I get rid of your puzzles. Even these doctors take some time before the operation. They give you something to clear your bowels before they operate on you, do they not? Likewise, here I have to cleanse you before operating upon you. Then all puzzles leave. And then if you proceed as I tell no further puzzles will arise. Otherwise this world is the warehouse of puzzles. No amount of reading scriptures, no amount of doing anything will get rid of the puzzle.
When will the puzzle end? There are only two 'things' in the world, relative and real. All this relative are temporary adjustments and real is the permanent. Now if a line of demarcation is established between the relative and the real then only the puzzle will be solved, otherwise not. The twenty-four tirthankaras had established this line. Acharya Kundkunda had established this line. And now we place this line and then all becomes well for him and all puzzles are solved. The line of demarcation is placed between the puzzle of the relative and the real and then one is given, this part is yours' and 'this part is others' and thereafter there is no conflict. Once I make him understand never to believe that the 'other part is mine', then his puzzle is solved. All this trouble and conflict has continued because of ownership of that which is not yours. The definition of puzzle is the continuance of conflict and tension and the absence of any awareness of any mistake of the owner. The entire account is filled with faults but then why is he not able to see a single fault of his own? This is because he is the offender, he is the lawyer and he is the judge. So he will never be the guilty one. And he is quick to see many many faults of every one else. So the knowledge of the relative and the real lets one see his own mistakes, wherever he sees he sees his own mistake only, and in fact it is his own fault only. He is lingering here in this world, and the world has arisen for him here because of his own mistakes, no one else's. Once these mistakes are taken care of he will end up with total liberation amongst the fully liberated ones in siddhagati (the location where all fully enlightened ones are without a physical form).
